We are currently seeking a Communications and Events Assistant. This position will play a supporting role in increasing awareness about our programs & services and supporting community engagement. This position will be responsible for supporting a variety of activities including marketing, branding, website, newsletters and social media, and will assist with the planning and execution of fundraising events.

About Hospice Vaughan:

Hospice Vaughan, a not-for-profit organization, has been helping people with life-limiting illnesses live fully in comfort and with dignity until they die, while providing support for families, friends, and caregivers. Currently we offer community based programs and services and we expanding to include a new 10-bed residential hospice.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to develop and implement new marketing/outreach initiatives
  • Assist with social media management including content creation, scheduling of posts, maintaining monthly editorial calendar and creating images
  • Maintain current information on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts
  • Performs research to find articles, stories, resources, or other content that is relevant to our client base and post it to HV’s social networks in a manner that invites conversation and interaction
  • Help to increase overall online presence of the organization
  • Manage and update the Micharity database to maintain effective donor relations and communications
  • Assist with the development of press releases and prepare information for media outlets
  • Maintain website calendars, events and donor pages and make other website updates as required
  • Assist in planning and promotion of hospice events and programs
  • Assist with other communication and administrative tasks as required

Qualifications:

  • College or University student enrolled in a degree or diploma program relating to Marketing, Communications, Event Planning or Administrative Studies
  • Must be currently registered as a full-time student or have recently completed a post-secondary program.
  • Experience and knowledge about the hospice sector and/or the non-profit sector is an asset
  • Experience managing social media campaigns an asset
  • Good understanding of social media analytics
  • Knowledge of principles of marketing communications
  • A strong teamwork orientation and the ability to effectively interface with different functions
  • Energetic and articulate, proven self-starter and leadership abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic, warm friendly manner
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of WordPress, Hootsuite, Canva, Photoshop and InDesign an asset
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada

We are currently seeking a Student Social Worker to support the provision of hospice palliative care services to vulnerable children, adolescents, adults, geriatric clients and families in collaboration with the inter-disciplinary Hospice client care team.

Currently we offer community based programs and services and we expanding to include a new 10-bed residential hospice.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in program implementation and evaluation for community events such as education and information seminars, drop-in sessions, adult day program, support groups and outreach opportunities
  • Effectively communicate with clients, families and volunteers as directed
  • Help in facilitating support groups
  • Assist with case management – shadow hospice counsellors to support client care, with ability to identify and help address gaps in service
  • Document case notes from job shadowing and client visits. Organize client files as directed
  • Call prospective clients, relay information about services, and complete intake process, as directed.  Consult with Hospice Services Manager as needed
  • Follow up with clients to check-in with them and confirm appointment details
  • Enter all new referrals into client database and produce related reports as requested. Update changes in database as needed
  • Research existing community services to prepare/update a comprehensive resource binder and help in linking community members in need to appropriate resources
  • Assist in preparation of letters, articles, fact-sheets, client agreements, client reports and collecting and/or analyzing service statistics
  • Prepare support groups and events announcements for approval by hospice services manager and coordinate dissemination to appropriate staff
  • Perform data entry and help with administrative/special projects as requested
  • Research community development and capacity-building best practices to make viable and appropriate recommendations to client care team
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the job, including displaying courtesy and sensitivity in all contacts

Qualifications:

  • College or University student pursuing Social Work or related major
  • Experience and knowledge about the hospice sector and/or the non-profit sector is an asset
  • A strong teamwork orientation and the ability to effectively interface with different functions of the organization and diverse stakeholders
  • Energetic and articulate, proven self-starter and leadership abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

We are currently seeking a summer student to fill the role of Volunteer Services Program Assistant to support the provision of hospice services to children, adolescents, adults and geriatric clients in collaboration with the Hospice client care team. This role will help with the further development of the current volunteer program to be able to meet the needs of our new 10-bed residential hospice.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine volunteer requirements for organizational management and program delivery
  • Assist with the implementation of volunteer policies, procedures, and practices, including the development of job descriptions for current and future volunteer roles
  • Assist with recruitment, screening, interviewing and onboarding of new volunteers
  • Work with staff to determine areas where volunteer support is required, integrate volunteers into existing and new programs
  • Coordinate initial and ongoing training, orientation, and volunteer mentorship opportunities
  • Develop volunteer surveys and identify successes, issues, and opportunities
  • Maintain good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with various hospices to help achieve the goals of HV
  • Promote hospice palliative care and volunteerism, representing Hospice Vaughan at various events and forums
  • Effectively communicate with clients, families and volunteers as directed
  • Enter all new volunteers into database and produce related reports as requested. Update changes in database as needed
  • Perform data entry and help with administrative/special projects as requested

Qualifications:

  • College or University student pursuing Health, Social Services, Social Work, Human Resources, Volunteer Management, or equivalent preferred
  • Must be between 18 and 30 years of age
  • Must be currently registered as full-time student and be returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • Experience and knowledge about the hospice sector and/or the non-profit sector is an asset
  • A strong teamwork orientation and the ability to effectively interface with different functions
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the job, including displaying courtesy and sensitivity in all contacts
  • Demonstrated team player, with strong interpersonal skills and empathetic listening skills
  • Energetic and articulate, proven self-starter and leadership abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic, warm friendly manner
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends), if needed
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada
