What services does hospice vaughan provide?
Services are provided to meet each clients’ special situation. Here are some common examples of services that may be provided:
  • Emotional support for all loved ones
  • Trained volunteers to visit with clients and give emotional support
  • Help with practical, day-to-day needs like shopping, appointments and outings
  • Telephone counseling in crisis situations
  • Respite care, to give at-home caregivers a break
  • Sympathetic listeners who can talk about and hear about dying
  • Sensitivity to personal, cultural and religious values, beliefs and practices
  • Counseling to help to adjust to change and loss
  • Ongoing bereavement support after the death of a loved one
  • Referral services and programs within the community

In Home Volunteer Visiting
Our staff and volunteers are specially trained in Palliative Care to provide the much needed support and care to families within the home. Volunteers may help families by:
  • providing emotional support and companionship
  • preparing light meals
  • running errands
  • driving clients to appointments
  • providing relief to caregivers.

Community Support/Public Education
Once a month, we offer a drop in support group for members of the community who are either experiencing stress caring for a loved one who is seriously ill or are having difficulty coping with the loss of a loved one.


Grief/Palliative Care Education
Hospice Vaughan volunteers undergo extensive training during a 10 week course in Palliative Care. Educational workshops, open to both volunteers and caregivers, are also held throughout the year.


Referral Services
The staff of Hospice Vaughan can also provide valuable information on community services and programs and make appropriate referrals when necessary.


Adult Grief/Bereavement Support Groups
Several times a year, a weekly support group is offered to caregivers, families and friends following the death of a loved one. Here you can gain support from others who have also suffered a loss, learn important coping skills and receive information about the grieving process.


Individual Grief Counseling
Professional staff is available for individual counseling & support. We understand how overwhelming grief can be, and we will be here for you as you mourn and provide a safe place to cry when that is needed.


Telephone Support
Emotional support is also available in the form of telephone support from both hospice staff and/or trained volunteers.


Volunteer & Caregiver Support
The staff at Hospice Vaughan are available to assist volunteers and caregivers in times of need. Volunteers & caregivers are encouraged to call the office at any time when the need arises.


Lending Library
Hospice Vaughan is able to provide reading material to clients and/or caregivers relating to terminal illnesses, caring for loved ones as well as inspirational materials.
