[Vaughan, Ontario] – On September 29th, at 10:00 AM, Hospice Vaughan played host to a momentous event as the Government of Ontario announced additional funding to support essential hospice palliative care services. The announcement took place in the heart of Hospice Vaughan, where Hospice Vaughan staff, volunteers, Board members, and government representatives gathered to highlight the critical importance of end-of-life care in the region.

 

In attendance on behalf of the Government of Ontario were distinguished Members of Provincial Parliament including, Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan and Minister of Education, Michael Tibollo, MPP Vaughan-Woodbridge and Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Michael Parsa, MPP for Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill and Minister of Children, Community, and Social Services, and Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. Their presence underlined the government’s recognition of the importance of hospice palliative care to the health care system and their commitment to addressing the critical needs of the community.

 

Highlighted in the government announcement to increase funding for hospice palliative care services includes a 45% boost for all registered hospice beds in Ontario. The Government’s increase equates to a total of $1.8 million in annual funding directly to Hospice Vaughan, which is set to have a positive impact on stabilizing the annual costs associated with the residential program.

 

Minister Tibollo expressed the impact of hospice palliative care on the community, stating, “What’s even more important is the support you provide to families, and that I don’t think is understood enough.” His words emphasize the vital role that hospice care plays in providing care for the patient and much-needed grief and bereavement support to their families.

 

In response, Louie Chiaino, Chair of the Hospice Vaughan Board of Directors, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Ontario, saying, “It was really beautiful what occurred here to create Hospice Vaughan, and I want to thank the Government of Ontario for providing us with the resources we need to continue caring and supporting the residents of the City of Vaughan.”

 

This funding supports Hospice Vaughan’s ability to provide exceptional and compassionate hospice palliative care, ensuring that individuals and families receive the support they need during their most challenging times.
