Hospice Vaughan’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Barb Fitzgerald as Interim Executive Director of Hospice Vaughan.

Barbara Fitzgerald has worked in health care as a clinical nurse specialist, an educator, collaborative practice-based researcher and leader specializing in oncology for over 35 years. Barb has been a part of health care senior executive leadership teams responsible for strategic planning, business plan development, and innovation with a focus on professional practice and patient/family centered care at Princess Margaret Hospital, Hamilton Health Sciences and BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Health Centre.  Her work crossed the continuum of care for patients receiving acute, curative treatment through to end of life care. Barb’s experience also includes working in two global health institutes (Princess Margaret and BC Children’s) supporting the development of excellence in nursing and allied health care and education in low to middle income countries. As a volunteer, Barb was President of Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology from 2013-2015.

To help balance work, Barb pursues interests in the outdoors which include hiking, gardening, golfing and traveling.

Since 1995, Hospice Vaughan, a not-for-profit organization, has been providing compassionate support to individuals facing a life-limiting illness or the loss of a loved one. We provide in-home visiting volunteers, a day program and grief and bereavement support. Our services extend out to caregivers, family members and friends who also need support in their time of need and grief. All our programs and services are free of charge for individuals of all ages.
