On October 20, 2017, over 1100 people attended Hospice Vaughan’s annual Giving Thanks Gala at the Terrace Banquet Centre. Proceeds from the sold out event will enable Hospice Vaughan to continue to provide compassionate support to individuals and their families, coping with a life limiting illness or dealing with the loss of a loved one.

It was an evening of celebration and giving thanks. With a fantastic dinner, a silent auction, a raffle, entertainment and dancing, the event delivered a great deal of excitement and emotion. The venue was filled with an energy that was palpable, but a hush fell over the gathering as the new Hospice Vaughan video played on screens throughout the room. Featuring brave and generous clients, caregivers and volunteers sharing their personal stories of love, loss, grief, healing and giving back, the video can be viewed here or on the Hospice Vaughan website.

The Gala also served as the formal launch of Hospice Vaughan’s “A Better Ending” Capital Campaign in support of its planned Centre of Excellence for Hospice and Palliative Care. With plans to break ground this fall, and open in the spring of 2019, this state-of-the-art facility will include a 10-bed residential hospice, family support and bereavement services, and visiting hospice services; and will serve as a community hub that will support research and educate on palliative care best practices.

“The “Better Ending” Campaign is focused on the blunt yet important message that everyone deserves a good death, surrounded by family in a peaceful environment. The Campaign has already experienced a tremendous response, with $4.5 million raised to date. We are now turning to the community to help us reach our $10 million goal” – Maria Castro, President of the Board of Directors, Hospice Vaughan.
Donations of any size can be made online at https://www.hospicevaughan.com/our-campaign/.

“Hospice palliative care is an integral and essential part of a community and its core healthcare needs, and it is currently a gap in our community. The new Hospice Vaughan facility will support so many people in our community when they are at their most vulnerable, for generations to come” – Belinda Marchese, Executive Director, Hospice Vaughan.

This year’s Gala was an incredible success thanks to corporate sponsors, community ticket sales, and donated auction items and raffle prizes. The Gala Committee, Board of Directors, staff and volunteers deserve kudos for hosting a great night for their guests.
